Viva

4/28/11

This is what my aching heart needs. Freedom. Get on a plane. Just go. These thunderstorms will pass. Pleasure. Kobe beef tartar and a dirty martini at the Bellagio for dinner. Dancing on the roof miles above the Strip, looking down at the neon signs, the bass coursing through my body, far away from everything real. Nothing ever lasts forever. I am in love with my friends. This fantasy helps.

Frankie Rose and the Outs // Primavera Sound

That night our sound guy was a French ex-pat who told me about being on the road as a guitar tech for Maiden in the 80’s. He said that when you have the kind of success that they have - being paid well to do what you love, being in control of your own destiny in such an active way - then you just start to operate on a totally different level and you either become a total dick or the nicest dudes in the world, and that Maiden are the latter, duh.  After the show we drank beers and walked back to the hotel, winding through cobblestone alleyways and running into friends from home. We cross paths with Wild Nothing at the hotel and go back out to have Thanksgiving Dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe with them and the boys from our British touring agency. Everyone gets drunk and makes merry and the Brits are confused by the pumpkin pie. Back at the hotel Frankie and I stay up talking about the band and I finish the bottle of whiskey from the club and put rollers in my hair before we empty out the mini-bar into my bag. I feel electric in bed and can’t sleep until 6am, swimming off on wild tangents in my mind and watching the sky out our window.
