Frankie Rose and the Outs

Mercury Lounge, NYC
February 2010

"Say what you will about the girl-group throwbacks that are popping up all over town. Poo-poo the Wall Of Sound effects and sweet harmonizing if you want. Then watch Frankie & The Outs, like I did last night at Mercury Lounge, and tell me how it feels to have your ass handed to you by a group of ladies dressed like The Manson Family at a Renaissance Fair. Frankie Rose and her band played a short set of perfect pop songs ranging from slow burners to something that sounded like a surfing zombie church choir. And all of them were fantastic and tight. As far as I'm concerned, on barely 30 minutes, Frankie & The Outs became the local band to beat."
